How soon after delivery is it really okay to have sex..I know the doctor recommends 6 weeks?

I had my baby three weeks ago. I am wondering when is it okay to have sex after delivering a baby and also what are the possible complications from doing it sooner?

The main reason to wait 6 weeks is so you don't get an infection. Also i don't know if you realise but you are at your most fertile now so if you're not planning on another child don't forget protection
